How To Put JBL Charge 6 In Pairing Mode

Erick Wachira May 15, 2025

The JBL Charge 6 is a powerful, portable Bluetooth speaker known for its rich sound and long battery life. To enjoy your favorite tunes wirelessly, you first need to put the speaker into Bluetooth pairing mode.

This article walks you through the simple steps to get your JBL Charge 6 connected to any Bluetooth-enabled device in seconds.

Ensure the speaker has some charge. If it’s brand-new, it may have a small factory charge, but we recommend plugging it into a USB-C power source for at least 30 minutes before first use.

Next, press the power button once. The LED status ring around the power button will light up and the speaker will perform its startup chime, indicating it’s fully on and ready to use. If it’s your first time powering it on, the Bluetooth LED will start blinking and making a recurrent sound. This means that it is in pairing mode.

If the speaker doesn’t enter pairing mode immediately you turn it on, simply press the Bluetooth button once. You can also do this if the speaker is already paired to a device.

Once you press the button in any of those instances, the Bluetooth LED will start blinking and the speaker is now ready to be connected or paired to any device you want.

The Charge 6 can remember multiple devices it is paired to, but only one can play at a time. To switch between paired devices, simply pause on one device and start playback on the other.

Troubleshooting Tips

Speaker Not Appearing: Turn Bluetooth off and on again on your device. Move the speaker and device closer (within 10 m/30 ft). You can also restart the speaker by powering it off and back on.

Cannot Pair New Device: If the speaker’s memory is full, press and hold both the Volume + and Play buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds to clear all Bluetooth pairings, then retry pairing.

Intermittent Connection or Dropouts: Ensure no obstacles (walls, large objects) block the line of sight. Turn off other nearby Bluetooth devices to reduce interference.

Tips for Best Performance

Keep Firmware Updated: Use the JBL Portable app (iOS/Android) to update your Charge 6’s firmware for improved connectivity and features.

Optimal Placement: Place the speaker on a flat, stable surface at least 1 m off the ground for richer bass resonance.

Battery Care: For longest battery life, avoid playing at maximum volume continuously and charge before fully depleted.
